The Project School’s plan for transporting students to and from school is based on the assumption that the school will be located in the community where its targeted student population reside. The Indianapolis Project School will be strategically located in the Martindale Brightwood Neighborhood at 22nd Street and the Monon Trail. This location positions the school not only in walking distance from many of the school’s targeted neighborhoods, but also places the school in the flow of commuter traffic for families who live on the city’s north side and work in the downtown area. In close collaboration with The Project School faculty, The Project School’s Parent Organization will develop a transportation support system to ensure that all children who are accepted into the school and cannot provide their own transportation will be able to attend school daily. The Project School will use all forms of public transportation and is committed to eliminating all transportation obstacles for students. The school is reserving funds to ensure access for each student.

Community Carpool

The Project School Faculty will work in close collaboration with The Project School Parent Organization to design and implement and extensive community carpool program that will serve as a transportation support as well as a community building experience for Project School families. We believe the best possible way to ensure that our students have a safe, healthy transportation experience is by supporting our passionate families and community members to take a leadership role in this effort. We see this as a natural way to not only provide transportation for students, but also to authentically engage and connect our parent community.

Transportation Services

The Project School believes it holds the ultimate responsibility for providing students with safe transportation to and from school. Even though we believe many of our students will take advantage of the community carpool or will live close enough to walk to school, we assume the primary mode of transportation for most children will be that which is provided by the school. The Project School will be consulting with Bowman’s Transportation to create a full transportation plan once the school has reached its enrollment capacity and has identified the families with transportation needs. Bowman’s currently provides transportation support to many charter schools.  We have also been in conversation with our local charter school peers and believe there is extreme potential for partnerships in terms of transportation. We plan to contract transportation services in year one, but our long-term vision is to acquire our own buses and drivers. Any student with transportation needs based on their Individual Education Plan will be guaranteed those accommodations outlined in the IEP. The Project School has budgeted to ensure all students can get to and from school safely and is committed to providing transportation to any family that needs it. No transportation obstacle will become a barrier to a student attending The Indianapolis Project School.
