arrival & dismissal changes

Smith Road, between Lincoln and Washington (the stretch that runs behind the park that we typically use for our car line) will be CLOSED for the remainder of the school year, beginning Monday, May 3. This is due to the Hidden River Project, and cannot be helped. We are tremendously grateful to the City and Milestones for working with us to create the most effective alternative plan to help us through these last weeks. Please take note of each important piece below:

  • For both arrival and dismissal, cars must now travel to TPS via Third Street to South Washington Street

  • Lincoln Street will no longer provide any car, foot or bike access to Smith - please do not allow your children to travel on Smith by foot or bike

  • DURING ARRIVAL, from South Washington Street make a right onto Smith to drop kiddos off in front of TPS at the ramp for the main building; TPS2 (7-8) can continue dropping off on Washington Street. The only change for arrival is that you will enter Smith from Washington Street instead of Lincoln, as most of you had been doing. Easy peasy!

  • DURING DISMISSAL, from 3-4p each school day, South Washington Street (beginning at the alley on the south side of the Transit Station) will be closed to all traffic except for TPS, and will have signage indicating this. We will have staff stationed at this location to attempt to have all non-TPS traffic use the alley between Middleway House and the Bloomington Transit to leave Washington Street.

  • Because staff stationed at the alley may not be familiar with all TPS cars and faces, please have your TPS placard on your dash. If you no longer have your placard, please make one on a sheet of paper (8.5x11or larger) and write in big lettering your child’s names and grade levels.

  • Street parking in front of the apartment building on South Washington will go away for the duration of the road closure. Our family cars will line up along the west sidewalk on Washington Street once south of Middle Way.

  • We will have staff stationed along South Washington Street to monitor safety and to radio for kiddos as you arrive. If your child hops into your car while you are still on South Washington Street, please just leave by going straight down South Washington Street. Please do NOT turn onto Smith toward TPS unless you still have children to pick up.

  • For families who only have kiddos in 7/8, nothing about your current routine will change (lucky you!). Use the thru traffic lane on South Washington to head to TPS2 for both drop-off and pick-up

  • We imagine that this will be an adjustment for our neighbors so we appreciate your flexibility as we figure out yet another new system.
